In our report, The Perfect Storm: Why Video Conferencing Will Dominate Business Communications, we discussed several important reasons why video conferencing will finally grow outside the niche it exists today in the pantheon of business communications. Here's one more reason.

[[High definition video]] conference is an incredibly information-rich and high quality visual communications:

  • The density of the presentation technology is 2 or 3 times more dense than legacy television (NTSC) presentation: 720 or 1080 lines versus 480
  • Progressive scanning or interlaced scanning. Progressive redraws every frame on refresh while interlaced scanning draws alternate lines on each refresh, and the whole frame on 2 refreshes. Interlaced is better at talking head-type videos, but for motion shots causes artifacts and blurry pictures.

Images are crisp and clear.
