Should mobile operators have the priority in event of disasters?
OK. Your city is flattened by an earthquake, a hurricane or some other natural disaster. What should have the communications priority? Land lines? Cable TV? Mobile?
Check this out.
A recent request for comment from the FCC based on a request from CTIA (the US mobile operator’s trade association) caused quite an interesting discussion on the USA Today site today. It seems the mobile operators believe that cell towers should have the same prioritized access to power and telecom service as hospitals, water treatment plants and the like. The phone companies of course, disagree.
So, here’s a short disaster prioritization survey. Tell us how you’d think the priorities ought to be. I will draw a prize for a $25 Apple iTunes store gift certificate (if you leave your email behind). The FierceWireless story here.
