Yes. The handset industry is pushing the envelope. Between Nokia, Sony-Ericsson, Samsung, Motorola and RIM, it is clearly about innovations. Deliver a unique capability along a performance dimension (size, application are two obvious ones), and drive penetration into the market before the other guys catch up.

Yes. The networking infrastructure industry is pushing the envelope. Between Nortel, Lucent, Siemens and Alcatel, the implementation variations along the IMS (IP Multimedia Subsystem) are interesting, but the important dimension is that this world will be an all-IP world. It will integrate all manner of access network services and it will require smart devices at the endpoint – in essence – a client.
