OnRelay reports that BT, the global communications company operating in 170 countries will conduct a trial using the OnRelay MBX software product to deliver Fixed-Mobile Convergence services to selected customers in the UK and elsewhere. The trial is expected to last several months and will allow companies to replace their IP phones with mobile phones by delivering all the functionality of an IP phone in a mobile phone.

Unlike most telephone companies, BT does not operate a wireless network or service in their home territory and therefore lacks the typical mobile operator bias. As a potential part of the BT Global Services portfolio, the MBX solution is likely to become an important part of BT's ongoing FMC strategy for meeting the needs of business customers.
