Wall Street Journal reported this morning that Wal-Mart has agreed to carry the Skype line of products – WiFi phones, PC headsets, speakerphones – and for the first time in the US, agreed to sell prepaid Skype cards. This is a US  breakthrough for Skype, a division of eBay. The company is well known in Europe and is growing in acceptance in southeast Asia as well.

In the USA, Skype has had more troubles signing up customers. For the last half of 2006, the company offered free SkypeOut (PC-telephone) calls, a $24.95/year calling plan in the USA and Canada, and more recently offered a Mother's Day promo stunt.

Skype products have been a part of Walmart.com for the past two years where it had been bundled with Linux PCs.
