I asked Ken Bisconti, VP IBM Lotus Software the other day about Lotus Notes spam control issues and whether he thought the email vendors ought to play a role in enabling better etiquette and safety in the use of email services.

Ken explained that Lotus Notes has about a dozen capabilities that facilitate spam control for customers and software partners. The task of filtering he acknowledged as being a flawed implementation, although it's the best available.  The problem with filtering technologies is that they can only protect against known problems.
